Environmental Imperatives for Australian Ports
Existing Australian ports need to address forecasts of a doubling bulk commodity exports and container imports are predicted to double in the next ten years. There is need to rationalize pressure for growth in ports with enhanced environmental management and better planning of new ports. This paper outlines key environmental imperatives and suggests a key direction should be to develop well-planned new ports under a harmonized regulatory regime.
