The role of Caravan Parks in meeting the housing needs of the aged
A diversity of housing types is needed to meet the needs of our ageing Australian population. Despite the negative stereotypes, caravan parks, which offer permanent accommodation, can offer a lifestyle that compliments the needs and desires of some aged persons. They can create a good ‘person‐environment fit’ in the balance they provide between security and autonomy. Land use planners typically view caravan parks as ‘underdeveloped’ properties and this threatens the future of many caravan parks located in urban areas or on the urban fringe.
