Magnesium phosphate solutions as liquids for mixing cements
The authors describe the physicochemical properties of magnesium phosphate solutions. They determine the influence of various solution parameters (density, viscosity, and quantity of dissolved oxide) on the setting time of phosphate setting cements. They show that addition of magnesium oxide to the mixing liquid leads mainly to retardation of the setting times. The authors show that addition of magnesium oxide to concentrated (>50 %) phosphoric acid increases the strength of the specimens after setting. However, in compositions with low acid concentration, addition of magnesium oxide to the acid reduces the mechanical strengths of the specimens.
