Upflow vertical tube evaporation of sea water with interface enhancement. Process development by pilot plant testing
Recent developments in sea water desalination in the U.S. favour vertical tube evaporation over multistage flash evaporation because of the relatively higher overall heat transfer coefficient obtainable. A versatile upflow pilot plant of 5000 gallons per day capacity is described and test data reported, showing that 25 % capital cost can be saved by substituting upflow vertical tube evaporation with interface enhancement for the downflow process.
