Approaches to computer-aided architectural sketch design
This paper examines those computer-aided architectural design (c.a.a.d.) systems intended to assist the architect during the early stages of the design process. It is suggested that existing manual design techniques should form the basis for such systems. Preliminary findigs in the monitoring of architect's design methods are discussed in relation to some reported deficiencies in c.a.a.d. systems for sketch design. The conventional roles of the designer and the computer in c.a.a.d. systems are questioned and the adoption of machine generated design using techniques based upon observed designer behaviour is suggested.
