Optimisation of the strategy for the evacuation from fires caused by a strong earthquake
The pedestrian flow in a network of evacuation routes is considered as a lumped parameter system. The state variable equations are formulated to describe the pedestrian density, the pedestrian flux and such like being functions of space and time. In the formulation the retardation of flow is also taken into consideration. On the retardation of pedestrian flow, assuming that it is caused by the flow becoming incompressible in an area in which the density reaches a maximum, the coefficient of retardation representing a degree of retardation is derived. Employing the relationship between density and velocity and the maximum density obtained by an observation of actual flow, an assumed pedestrian flow in an actual urban area is simulated.
