Computer modelling of reservoir networks and hydroelectric plants
A general purpose computer simulation model, named HYSM (Hydroelectric Simulation), developed at Chas. T. Main Inc., is described. In 1981, its modelling capability was limited to ten cascading reservoirs and hydroelectric plants, all on the same river, each plant having no more than ten generating units of equal or unequal sizes. Since that time HYSM has gone through a process of evolution and enlargement in which its features and capabilities have been enhanced and some of its computational procedures modified and refined. It is now capable of simulating almost an unlimited number of reservoirs and hydroelectric plants located on a network of rivers and tributaries on one or more river basins. The salient features and capabilities of the HYSM improvements are presented.
