The combination of microprocessor-based data-collection systems with analogue sensors allows fire-detection systems to remain in a calibrated condition for long periods, enabling a false alarm state to be predicted before a real false alarm occurs. This will lead to greater confidence in automatic fire-detection systems. Wiring and hardware/(AFD) integrity is improved. Although hardware costs are slightly higher, in general, this is more than compensated for by the reduction in wiring and servicing costs. Early and reliable detection of true fires allow advanced evacuation of buildings or prompt suppression of fires leading to greater safety in large buildings and complexes. Improved fire algorithms will lead to even greater confidence in future AFD systems.
