Artificial intelligence for air force tactical planning
Discusses the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) system. The possibilities of applying AI to tactical planning was recognised by the MITRE Corp. as a result of its pioneering knowledge based system (KBS). The first major improvement to the KBS was the use of a new generation of computers called LISP machines. A dynamic and real time capability is being introduced with a Meta Planning System that will allow planners to replan missions using resources that already are airborne and that have ordnance and fuel remaining for handling another task or that could be refuelled while airborne.
