A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This article describes a successful feasibility study to improve weld quality and increase the range of acceptable welding parameters when micro-friction welding 2,4 mm diameter aluminium studs to mild steel plates. A noticeable improvement is achieved by using a support sleeve on the stud material and this is illustrated by a comparison of welding trials conducted with and without the support sleeve.
