Nonlinear static response of clamped circular arches
In this paper a study is undertaken of the static response of seven clamped circular elastic arches of varying radii but equal spans. Symmetric and asymmetric behaviour of perfect arches are calculated and the effect of imperfections is considered. The results are obtained by dividing an arch into discrete elements and the well-known stiffness method of structural analysis. In order to determine maximum loads directly and to follow post-buckling paths an augumented stiffness approach is adopted. A method of calculating an important constant in the augmented stiffness approach is described.
