Curvature ductility of circular reinforced concrete columns confined by the ACI spiral
Theoretical moment-curvature analyses of circular reinforced concrete columns contained the amount of spiral steel recommended in the special provisions for seismic design of the building code of the American Concrete Institute. The analyses are based on idealized stress-strain relationships for steel and confined concrete derived from existing experimental data. Use of the ACI spiral is shown to result in reasonable curvature ductility in all cases examined of columns with axial load levels, providing the longitudinal steel works significant strain hardening at high strains.
