Masonry piers under uniformly distributed lateral loads
An analysis of the load carrying capacity of a transversely loaded column of no-tension material is presented. Extending the basic assumptions materials with small tensile strength are also included. The transverse load is uniformly distributed while the axial loads at the two ends are applied with varying, not necessarily identical, eccentricities. A comparison is made with columns of conventional tensile strength.
