Described are the reasons for consideration of recycling for deteriorated pavements, saliently economy, and i itemized are some pavements suitable for recycling, with emphassis upon enhancement of structural strength. Mentional are three main categories of recycling: Hot recycling, cold recycling, and surface recycling, together with variations in the equipment and methods used in the latter category. Examples of successful recycling projects in Iowa, Oregon, and Minnesota are described, including the upgrading of shoulders on the Interstate system. The Federal Highway Administration's commitment to recycling is exemplified by reference to a Region 9 directive. (Wassmann)
