For further progress of sediment-laden flow analysis
It is important to find an effective sediment discharge formula which predicts the sediment amount carried by a river flow. Many of the existing sediment formulae are based on the local balance of the forces acting on a sediment particle in water. Though this kind of approach, which is microscopic gives us a reasonable result for laboratory flumes and for short-term sediment discharge predictions, too much information may be required for long-term predictions for natural rivers. It is shown that a conventional sediment formula which is primitive but practical has some theoretical uses. It is also suggested through some examples that the more practical approach is necessary to the sediment transport study for natural rivers. (Stoehr)
