Computer aided design and manufacturing for structural steel fabricators
Sigma Design Inc.'s turnkey CAD/CAM system is used for structural steel fabricators. Major hardware features are discussed along with various peripheral units. The capability for expansion and direct communication between systems is addressed. The structural steel fabricating software is described relative to its design criteria, the flow of input, and the range of output. Examples of a typical beam detail, its corresponding bill of materials, and its drill list are shown. Interactive graphics, the basis of the steel package, is defined, along with its features and benefits to the fabricator. The paper closes with a financial analysis, and a development forecast.
