Protection of bag filters against fire and explosion - an interim report
A test program has been conducted to determine the feasibility of providing early fire detection in an operating jet tube house and to determine the ability of Halon 1301 to extinguish fires in the filter bag material. The early fire detection was provided by a two-level detection system. The first level was designed to sense an incipient fire and to shut off the air flow through the tube house, and the scond level was designed to activate the first extinguishing system. Various detectors and detection principles were used. Detection system performance as a function of fire location, fire heat output, and air flow through the tube house was measured. The ability to detect and extinguish filter bag fires at different locations and subject to varying rates of air flow was also determined.
