Optimization of equivalent periodic truss structures
Through the use of equivalent modeling and simple hand calculations, an optimization of a truss structure was achieved. In addition, valuable insight was gained into the relative performance of a tubular and a solid member truss structure. This approach could be extended to more complicated structures, resulting in inexpensive preliminary optimzation. However, the analyst must be careful in selecting his equivalent models in order to avoid erroneous results.
