Within two years of the collapse of the ita tubular steel transmission tower at emley moor, a new concrete mast was in service. the independent television authority chose concrete for the new tower for reasons of speedy construction and appearance. Had they selected a stayed tubular steel mast similar to the one which collapsed, they would have had to delay staring on the new tower pending the outcome of failure investigations.
