Since the demand for water had increased because of the growing population, industries, hotels, rising standards of living etc. In such a trend the natural water-sources did not deliver sufficient quantities. Also because at curacao the soil is porous, dry and hot and the great tropic-rains are sporadic and the precipitation as a rule is very freakish, the rainfall contributes not more than an estimated 10 percent for the water-supply. Since the watercosts imported by a barge or a ship are higher than producing the drinkingwater out of seawater, this last method has to be chosen for curacao.
