Seismic hazard mitigation using multiple magnetorheological devices
This paper discusses the results of a series of experiments conducted to evaluate the performance of magnetorheological devices for earthquake hazard mitigation. Shear-mode MR dampers are used to control the responses of a six story building subjected to ground motion. A multiple-input configuration is used in which two dampers are rigidly attached between the base and first floor, and between the first and second floors of the test structure. A clipped optimal control algorithm that is based on acceleration feedback is used to determine the control action.
