New way for determining the chloride diffusion coefficient in concrete from steady state migration test
This paper presents a new method for measuring the chloride diffusion coefficient in concrete from steady state migration tests. First, we review concepts of the steady-state diffusion and migration tests. We emphasize that these tests have limitations if we use them in the classical way. Then, we show how it is possible to determine the chloride diffusion coefficient from a steady-state migration test by measuring the drop in chloride concentration in the cathodic solution. Four different concretes were tested to show the influence of the cement and the water/cement ratio. The results are as accurate as those obtained with an ordinary method. Moreover, it is easy to make use of this method and the length of the test is now comparable with the time spent in using a non-steady state experiment. A numerical model based on a finite difference method allows us to illustrate some equations.
