Numerical simulation of solidification of cast steel cylinder
Mathematical model of solidification of cast steel cylinder in sand mold has been formulated and investigated in the paper. Partial differential equation of heat conduction has been solved by means of implicit alternating direction method. Thermophysical properties of mold and casting depend on temperature, which gives nonlinearity to the model. At the same time a new formula for dependence of cooling modulas upon the time of solidification has been stated, which is improvement of Adams formula for solidification of low carbon cast steel cylinders.
