Ground improvement by using geosynthetics
This paper demonstrates the various applications of Geosynthetics along with case studies. The case studies fall under two categories namely remedial measures in post construction scenario and techniques adopted prior to start of construction. Rock Fall Protection: Garware Boulder net made with polymer ropes completely covers distress susceptible slope and fixed by suitable fixtures. Shore Protection: Geotextiles are extensively used in erosion control structure because of their economy, consistent properties and general ease of installation. Soil Slope Stabilization: Anco drain consists of a hollow pipe like section or tubular section with specially designed fleets at the bottom, which makes it look like a screw. Geomat made of geonet in conjunction with coconut fibres helps to prevent surface erosion by the principle of microreinforced vegetation growth. Woven geotextiles made of high tenacity polypropylene multifilament yarn provides adequate drainage for subsurface water in conjunction with granular sand. Geonets made of polypropylene are capable of withstanding high temperature and are suitble for asphalt reinforcement. Combining geotextile with specially designed drainage cores, a new drainage system called Geocomposite Edge drain are now available.
