Porous ceramic sound-adsorbing brick
Yagiso Co., Ltd., Tsukuno-cho, Sakai City, has developed a brick Calspalm Cute Hagi that can adsorb low frequency sounds about three times better than conventional types of bricks. Internal air bubbles are interlinked to make the brick air permeative, so that normally reflected low frequency sounds are adsorbed readily to display an excellent acoustic effect. This new brick is produced by using the soot generated through coal combustion by the company's power station as the main ingredient. The soot compound in the material creates continuous vesicles in the shaping and sintering process. The new brick can be produced in three standard colors as well as in various other colors and variations in conformance with the designer preference. The new brick is available in the three sizes of 210 x 100 x 60 mm, 260 x 80 x 50 mm and 200 x 100 x 50 mm, features a bulk density of 0.7, compressive strength of 4.12 N/mm2, flexural strength of 1.43 N/mm2 and thermal conductivity of 0.17 W/mK.
