Technology of counter-current ion exchange
A novel APKORE filter system (Dow) for an ion-exchange purification of industrial water (capacity 820 m3/h) was installed in the Novgorodskij thermal-electric power station to decrease the wastewater release and operational costs by changing the co-current regeneration of the ion-exchange bed to a counter-current one. As result, the filter number was reduced from 37 to 12 and the specific consumption of sulfuric acid and alkali was decreased. A substantial drop of process water consumption (from 403 kg/m3 to 87 kg/m3) was also achieved. The operational costs of the industrial water purification were cut by 27 %.
