Innovative hybrid RECP-lined drainage channel
Severe erosion along a drainage channel threatened the stability of an old landfill. Engineers looked at several alternatives to repair and control the erosion. A hybrid rolled erosion control product (RECP) channnel lining system consisting of fabric-formed concrete and two types of turf reinforcement mats (TRMs) was selected for this application. This article summarizes the controlling site conditions and the results of a performance and cost-comparison evaluation that engineers conducted prior to selecting the hybrid RECP lining system. The ability to control erosion during the 25-year, 24-hour storm event and cost were the two primary factors evaluated. Based on the manufacturer's performance specifications, a hybrid RECP lining system consisting of fabric-formed concrete and two types of TRMs met the performance requirements.
