Monotonic and cyclic flexural behaviour of medium and high strength fibre reinforced concrete
Three different types of fibres (steel, carbon, and polyolefin) were investigated in fibre reinforced concrete at two different strength levels (48 MPa and 70 MPa) of the plain matrix, and at fibre volumes of 1.5 % and 3.0 %. The focus of the study was the flexural behaviour of fibre reinforced concrete under both monotonic and cyclic loading, using beams in four-point bending. In all cases, it was found that fibres improved the flexural strength and flexural toughness compared to plain concrete, especially in the case of high strength concrete. The high values of residual strength and energy absorbed after several cycles of loading showed the advantages of using fibre reinforced concrete in seismic areas.
