A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Aims, scope, methods, history and unified terminology of computer-aided topology optimization in structural mechanics
Aims, methods, scope, history and unified terminology of computer aided topology optimization in structural mechanics is discussed. Layout Optimization (LO) and Generalized Shape Optimization (GSO) are the two subfields of topology optimization of structures and composites. LO deals with grid-like structures with low-volume fractions and GSO deals with higher volume fractions. The different solution strategies such as SIMP (Solid Isotropic Microstructure with Penalization) and OMP (Optimal Microstructure with Penalization) are compared in term of their computational efficiency.
