For quick evacuation in event of some untowards incident in high rise buildings, use of elevators was discussed. Computer simulations were done to show that time taken to evacuate people at times of emergencies was less in case of elevators, as compared to stairwells and exits. Use of elevators at the time of emergencies, also ensured that number of people running down stairs and pushing slower people out of the way was reduced.
