Glass-ceramic matrix composites made from industrial waste
Glass-ceramic materials have been fabricated from Latvian industrial wastes. These glass-ceramics, made by sintering in a very narrow temperature interval (<50 degree C), exhibit good physical properties to be considered as building materials. The optimisation of the sintering behaviour of glass-ceramics containing clay and alumina platelets was carried out. The experimental results showed that the addition of clay and alumina platelets resulted in a larger sintering temperature interval of the glass-ceramic composition (>50 degree C) and in a higher ultimate strength (up to 96.5 MPa) of the materials.
