Experimental study on torsional reinforced concrete beam strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced plastics
The experiment process and results of torsional reinforced concrete beam strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) are introduced. The main parameters studied in the experiment are the amount of CFRP, and the placement of CFRP reinforcement. The investigation shows that the application of CFRP to reinforced concrete torsional beams results in a relative increase in ultimate bearing capacity. The failure of beam with low-reinforcement ratio or quite low concrete strength begins in beam itself, so the strength of CFRP can not be fully used and the bearing capacity of beam strengthened with CFRP doesn' t increase much. The CFRP for torsional beam is more effective when it is separately wrapped rather than fully wrapped. Besides, bonding strength between CFRP and concrete is one of the important factors affecting reinforced results.
