A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Latest steel products for building construction
With the continuing growth in the share of steel-frame building construction in Japan and the demand for larger and higher buildings with high earthquake resistance, safety and durability, the steel industry is called upon to develop the advanced steel products to realize such structures. Among newly developed products are not only steel materials having higher strength, extraheavy thickness and large sections but concrete-filled steel tube columns offering steel-concrete composite effects, and fire-resistant/stainless steels that have surmounted steel's drawback. The main features and examples of application of these new steel products are presented. Future trends in materials development of steels for construction purposes are discussed. (VDEh)
