Mechanical properties of calcium aluminate cement concretes
Calcium aluminate cement (CAC) concretes have specific applications in the construction industry, where they provide unique solutions in certain aggressive environments. They can be the materials of choice for lining sewage networks, surfaces subject to abrasion in hydraulic dams, industrial floors or for cold concreting and rapid concrete repairs. The effect of the environment on the compressive strength has been widely studied particularly in the context of conversation, the process by which the concrete attains its stable long-term strength. However, very little research has been done on other engeneering properties. Knowledge of the compressive strength of the concrete is not sufficient to characterise its ability to perform well in many non-structuralapplications such as slabs on ground or concrete pavement repairs. The present paper deals with additional mechanical properties of CAC concretes such as elastic properties, ductility, fracture energy and tensile strength that are useful for designing a CACconcrete construction. he experimental work has been specially focused on the effects of temperature, moisture, type of aggregates and age.
