Tensile behavior of FRP tendons for prestressed ground anchors
The objectives of the research are to evaluate the performance of FRP ground anchors and to develop anchorage devices, method of installation, and stressing techniques. This paper presents the tensile behavior of cement-grouted AFRP and CFRP anchors. In this project, four types of commercially available pultruded AFRP and CFRP rods, namely Arapree, Technora, Leadline, and CFCC, were selected for the investigation. It was found that the stress-strain relation of FRP rods is linear at all stress levels up to the point of failure, without exhibiting any yielding of the material. Compared with the reported mean ultimate capacity, the tested mean value is 5 % lower for Arapree rods, about 10 % higher for Leadline rods, and 5 % higher for CFCC. FRP multirod ground anchors show an acceptable tensile behavior with higher tensile capacity. The maximum acceptable proof load varies with tendon type, 0.60 fpu for Arapree, 0.66 fpu for Technora, and 0.83 fpu for CFRP, CFCC and Leadline. Subjected to a proof load of 0.66 fpu, all tested FRP multirod grouted anchors show an acceptable creep behavior according to existing codes. However, creep behavior controls the long-term load-bearing capacity of prestressed FRP ground anchors.
