Steel lining method for shield tunnel reinforcement
A Steel Lining Method suitable to repair or reinforce a shield tunnel in service for communication cables and pipelines has been developed. The method sets up two split-type steel pipe segments, which have flange joints, and spigot joins in the tunnel. The effectiveness of the method was checked experimentally by compressive tests with 825 mm-diameter structural models and confirmed the safety of the reinforced tunnel. On-site operation of the method with 3850 mm-diameter segments proved the excellent performance of the segments in construction and water-sealing. The method realizes to reinforce a shield tunnel with a minimum reduction of the cross-section area of the tunnel. The operation of the method for a tunnel in service can be performed in safety and in a short term without giving damage to existing cables and pipes. (VDEh)
