Active damping in civil engineering using hydraulic actuators
Structural oscillations of cable-supported structures can be reduced significantly by active damping systems. This paper introduces an electro-hydraulic actuator concept for the active damping of cable-stayed bridges. Besides of a systematy of suitable actuator structures it is shown that the developed actuator concept reaches the demands of the active damping strategy even in large bridges (up to 900 m span). Final tests on a large-scale mock-up bridge show the efficiency of active damping in cable-stayed buildings using electro-hydraulic actuators.
