Durability of high performance concrete under frost attack
As verified by practical experiences, concrete without air entrainment can have a good durability despite to frost attack. Testing concrete with the CIF-test (Capillary Suction Internal Damage in Freeze Thaw Test) can prove this statement whereas in the past predominantly concrete structures with w/c ratio above 0,4 have been investigated. Due to the extreme dense structure of concrete under a w/c ratio of 0.4, a good frost resistance has been supposed from the outset. Damages on HPC structures, observed in the past, refute this statement. In this paper the analysis of the internal damage as well as the water uptake behaviour of some HPC series will be presented by using the CIF-test.
