In der öffentlichen Gasversorgung wird Erdgas heute weltweit mit schwefelhaltigen Odoriermitteln versetzt. Um die SO2-Emissionen so gering wie möglich zu halten und andere Nachteile der schwefelhaltigen Odorierung auszuschalten, gibt es in der Gaswirtschaft Bestrebungen, schwefelfreie Odoriermittel einzusetzen. Auf Initiative der Ruhrgas AG hat eine Arbeitsgruppe aus verschiedenen Fachleuten, darunter Vertreter der DVGW-Forschungsstelle am Engler-Bunte-Institut der Universität Karlsruhe und Fachleute der Firma Haarmann & Reimer GmbH, eine entsprechende Alternative entwickelt. Gasodor S-free (so der Handelsname) erfüllt alle Anforderungen der DIN EN ISO 13734. Ein umfangreicher Feldversuch hat das neue Mittel unter Praxisbedingungen erprobt. Dabei testete man neben dem Geruchseindruck auch das Handling in den Odorierstationen und das Verhalten im Versorgungsnetz. Das Ergebnis überzeugte: Es gibt eine schwefelfreie Alternative, die alle praktischen Anforderungen erfüllt.
Throughout the world, sulphur-containing odorants are usually added to the natural gas delivered to end users. In order to minimise SO2 emissions and avoid the other drawbacks of these odorants, the gas industry tries to use sulphur-free odorising agents. At the initiative of Ruhrgas, an expert working group with representatives of the DVGW research centre at the Engler-Bunte Institute of Karlsruhe University and specialists of the odorant manufacturer Haarmann & Reimer GmbH have come up with an alternative. Gasodor S-Free (which is the brand name) meets all requirements specified in DIN EN ISO 13734. In a comprehensive series of tests, the new odorant was examined under field conditions. Aspects looked into included the odor itself, the handling of the agent at the odorising stations and the behaviour in the pipeline grid. The result was convincing. There is a sulphur-free alternative that complies with all practical specifications.
