Manufacture of compatible plasters for tufaceous masonries
A granular tuff-based aggregate has been mixed with Portland cement, fine powdered tuff and hydrated lime for the manufacture of the mortars. Taking both the Portland cement/ (powdered tuff + hydrated lime) and the powdered tuff/hydrated lime ratios constant and equal 1, the aggregate/binder ratio has been changed between 3 to 1.13. A relatively high water/binder ratio has been necessary to mix these mortars. After a curing time of 28 days at 20 deg C and in an environment having relative humidity higher than 90 %, the normalized mortars have been tested in their physical and mechanical characteristics. Such characteristics have been compared with those of tuff stones in order to evaluate if the manufactured mortars can be suitably used for the plastering of tufaceous masonries.
