Tougher roofing
Short notice given only substantially as follows: Milliken & Co has invented a two-ply roofing membrane according to European Patent 1207232 . The new base fabric is made of continuous filament glass fibre to which is stitched or knitted a second layer of nonwoven polyester staple. This may be achieved using a Malimo stitch-bonding machine with weft insertion or stitch-through capacity. The first layer is an open network of yarns of about 3.39 - 33.91 g.m-2 made using glass filaments. The polyester nonwoven will be about 17 g.m-2 and is made with staple fibres of 38 - 76 mm.
