Water treatment: The continuing battle against FAC
Flow assisted corrosion (FAC), sometimes called flow accelerated corrosion, is a serious issue at power generating facilities, as dramatized in recent years by a number of fatalities due to FAC-induced failures. The threat of flow assisted corrosion in power plant equipment demands close attention to proper water chemistry control. This paper outlines current practices regarding boiler feedwater treatment, especially as they relate to FAC prevention.
