The characterization of an old concrete using destructive and the ultrasonic non-destructive testing methods
The basic objective of the present experimental investigation was to contribute to the development of the powerful ultrasonic nondestructive testing (NDT) method, for the improved nondestructive characterization of concrete. Between all known NDT methods, the most promising seems to be the ultrasonic, because through this method a lot of mechanical properties of concrete can be determined. Two novel approaches seem promising for such development. In the first of them the velocity, while in the second the damage of ultrasonic waves in concrete are used. By this experimental work, destructive and the ultrasonic NDT method is applied for the study of damage evolution versus the compressive loading of a 30 years old concrete.
