Experimental sound insulation improvement in multi-layered sandwich partitions
Estimated and measured sound transmission loss data are presented in this paper, which documents the benefits of adding layers of polyurethane foam to sandwich partitions built with an expanded polystyrene core. It is shown that the add-on treatment avoids the effects of dilatational resonance and improves transmission loss at the critical frequency. The improved sound transmission loss is obtained in expanded polystyrene partitions without a significant increase in thickness.
