Geogrilles pour eviter l'effondrement des routes
In many regions, collapses such as sink holes can suddenly occur caused by old shafts or particular geological conditions. Road construction above such areas requires design and implementation of protective measures. For maximum protection, steel reinforced concrete slabs are installed under the road. Partial protection using geosynthetics is sufficient where the stability of the area prone to collapsing must be ensured only for a limited period of time. Geosynthetic reinforcements for bridging sink holes are selected with respect to the allowed deformation of the road surface, the diameter of the potential sink hole and the tensile strength and elongation performance of the reinforcing elements. The company Naue Fasertechnik developed test methods to examine whether its uni-axial Secugrid is suited to protect roads against surface collapses. The geosynthetics should protect the road structure from collapsing for two weeks. During this period, continuous truck passages at 60 km/h must be possible and the asphalt layer must not deform more than 5 cm. The large-scale dynamic tests were carried out in a special tank with the dimensions 4.70 m x 4.00 m at the Technical University Anhalt (Dessau, D). The most important result of the tests established that the installed Secugrid 400/40 R6 geogrid resisted without damage both the stress of the structure as well as the traffic load.
