Hidratacion de los cementos de aluminatos de calcio (parte I)
The present work is a literature review on the hydration process of calcium aluminates cements (CA, CA, y C12A,) with high alumina contents. The main hydration products of these materials are described as function of the water/solid ratio and temperature. Their reaction mechanisms, studied by several authors and also their typical microstructure are discussed. Hydration is a exothermic process and depends on the experimental conditions such as temperature, water/solid ratio, reaction time, reactivity of the cement, relative humidity etc. the hydration products are responsible for the mechanical properties of the product. Hydrates have in dependence of the time and the temperature a hexagonal morphology (meta-stable). Spherical hydrates with high density result in a change of the dimensions, an increase of the porosity and a loss of mechanical resistance.
