A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This paper discusses the application of a model for accelerated ageing of GRC. lt updates previous models in that it is derived from consideration of the microstructural processes responsible for strength loss. Accelerated ageing is described in terms of the activation energy of the strength loss process and compared to the acceleration factors derived by previous investigators. A large amount of new, existing and previously unpublished data was fitted to the model and the results presented here. It was found that first and second generation OPC matrix grc had similar activation energy for the strength loss process that was in agreement with values previously derived. Modified matrix GRCs did not degrade according to the same activation energy and thus the acceleration factors derived by previous investigators are not valid for modified matrix GRC. The concept of a ductile service life is introduced and this quantity predicted, using the model, for various GRC formulations.
