A new approach in mix design of self-consolidating concrete
A new approach for mix design of SCC has been developed. The new approach is based an the paste rheology model, which considers the effect of aggregate properties and content. The new paste rheology model combines the criteria for minimum flow diameter, minimum viscosity and optimum flow-viscosity ratio of paste. The experimental results showed that the paste rheology model and criteria, which are related to aggregate spacing and average aggregate diameter, can be applied for different coarse-total aggregate ratios, different cement contents and different water-to-binder ratios as well as different contents and types of fly ash. The paste rheology model is useful in designing mixture proportions of SCC and reducing the extent of laboratory work and materials used. The model can also provide the basis for quality control and further development of new mineral and chemical admixtures.
