Creep, shrinkage and chloride permeability properties of self-consolidating concrete
Creep, shrinkage, durability and shear resistance properties of self-compacting concrete were investigated in this study and compared with normal concrete. The results of the investigation work reported in this paper can be summarized as follows: 1. Although the initial elastic deformation is more in the case of self-compacting concrete, final strain induced by creep is less than normal concrete. 2. Rate of creep reduces from 7 days to 28 days. In the case of self-compacting concrete, the reduction rate is more. 3. The drying shrinkage of self-compacting concrete was 25 % lower than that of normal concrete, which contained less powder and had higher w/p ratio for the same water content. 4. Self-compacting concrete for lower w/p ratio and greater compactness shows more durability in terms of chloride permeation as compared to normal concrete. 5. The size of coarse aggregate in self-compacting concrete did not have a significant effect an the shear resistance property.
