New cement grinding plant with VSK separator at Rohrbach Zement in Dotternhausen
In early 2000, KHD received a turnkey contract from Rohrbach Zement for the installation of a new cement grinding plant. This plant produces mainly Portland burnt shale cement, but also all other final products and intermediates for the binder blending plant. Its capacity is 140 t/hour for the CEM II/B-T 32.5 R grade. The first grinding stage consists of a roller press and the VSK separator, used for the first time on the industrial scale. The final grinding takes place in a ball mill operated in a circuit with a rotor cage separator. The two grinding stages are designed so that they can also be operated individually. The distinctive feature of this grinding plant lies in the very different grindability of the main constituents 'clinker' and 'burnt oil shale' and in the possibility of influencing their fineness individually. The VSK separator, in use for the first time, is a further development of the long-known V separator. The robust static cascade separator performs the task of compacted cake disintegration and preclassification at a relatively coarse cut-point with no significant wear. Through the integration of a rod cage into the same machine, fine cut-points are also attained. Thus, a compact and low-wear separator is available, with which the potential of the roller press can be optimally exploited.
